Studies have shown that people who take the medicine, Truvada, every day have a greatly reduced risk of infection.
The FDA usually accepts the advice of its advisory panels, which are made up of outside medical experts. The vote was 19-3 in favor.
The FDA’s decision is expected this summer.
After evaluating studies of the once-a-day pill and hearing scientific presentations, the advisory panel recommended yesterday that Truvada be prescribed for people at high risk of infection, such as gay men who have multiple sex partners, especially those who do not always use condoms, and people in a relationship with someone who is HIV-positive.
Young black men who have sex with other men are at highest risk. The drug also would be recommended for other high-risk people, such as prostitutes.

SILVER SPRING, Md. — A drug already used to treat HIV infection should also be approved to prevent it, an advisory panel to the Food and Drug Administration said Thursday, May 10. The recommendation is the first time that government advisers have advocated giving antiviral medicine to healthy people who might be exposed through sexual activity to the virus that causes AIDS.
One panelist called approving the drug “an amazing opportunity to turn the tide on this epidemic.”

Yet, wealthy and sophisticated leaders of our country used their position of power to accumulate more wealth in a clearly illegal and unethical manner.
We don’t know how long congressional leaders were profiting in this manner, but I suspect that this kind of trading went on for quite some time. Apparently, some new rules are now in place that will punish our political leaders for engaging in these kinds of unlawful acts.
In my view, these insider traders should have been prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
However, our justice system is not always just.
Having lavish parties and spending time with prostitutes is problematic. But using one’s position of power and breaking well known laws regarding the stock market to steal what may have been millions of dollars is a much more serious offense.

Before his investigation started, Stearns was also persuaded by a series of Live Action Films showing Planned Parenthood workers advising actors posing as a sex trafficker and a prostitute on how to obtain birth control and abortions for their underage trafficking victims.
“Stearns said he was appalled by what he saw and was struck by the dedication of Live Action to expose the truth about Planned Parenthood,” says Lila Rose of Live Action.

Martin Narey, former chief executive of the children’s charity Barnardo’s, said men of South Asian descent were “overwhelmingly represented in prosecutions” for sexual exploitation offenses in some northern English towns such as Rochdale, 170 miles (275 kilometers) from London.
“That is not to condemn a whole community. Most Asians would absolutely abhor what we have seen in the last few days in the Rochdale trial, and I don’t think this is about white girls,” he told the BBC. “It’s sadly because vulnerable girls on the street at night are generally white rather than more strictly parented Asian girls, but there is a real problem here.”
The men abused the girls in taxis, kebab shops and apartments. The men used various defenses, including claiming the girls were prostitutes. Several said they did not know the age of consent in Britain, which is 16.
