Police raided three acupuncture and massage parlors in Greenbelt on Friday that investigators believe were being used as brothels, authorities said.
Police said the parlors in the 7700 block of Belle Pointe Drive, the 7300 block Hanover Parkway and the 7500 block of Greenway Center Drive had been raided last year, but the businesses apparently kept allowing customers to pay for sex acts. They said investigators seized cash and were working to compile criminal charges.

The Greenbelt Police Department and members of the Metropolitan Area Drug Task Force (MADTF) raided three suspected brothels Friday that were operating under the guise of acupuncture and massage parlors, according to a press release by the Greenbelt Police.
Search and seizure warrants were served today, which were obtained after an ongoing investigation revealed sex acts were being performed inside the businesses in exchange for money.
Two of the businesses had been raided by MADTF and the Greenbelt Police last summer, but had resumed their illegal operations, according to police. One was an acupuncture health facility, operating from a business complex at 7335 Hanover Parkway, Suite C & D, in Greenbelt, police said.The other was Rising Sun Massage, located at 7743 Belle Pointe Drive in Greenbelt, according to police.This time police said they also raided a third location at and 7525 Greenway Center Drive, Suite 116, in Greenbelt, Prince George’s County, Maryland. Currency was seized and charges are pending in these cases, police said.

Baltimore Massage Parlors: Captain’s Report: Burglaries, Robberies Up

The captain explained that the burglaries mostly involved houses where there were break-ins and copper was stolen.
“I just want us to keep vigilant on the burglaries—lock your doors. Make sure your neighbors know you’re away when you do go away. It’s no problem calling the police for suspicious activity,” Busch said.
The captain reports to the community group during its monthly Tuesday meetings.
Busch also said that there had been two recent auto thefts, but commended the efforts by investigators.
“The Regional Auto Theft Taskforce has been doing a good job of stopping trends,” Busch said.
Busch concluded by saying that massage parlors on Harford Road are under the scrutiny of the Baltimore County police vice squad.
Another massage parlor in Overlea was raided by police and federal officials back in May.

The alleged activities of commissioner Jean-Christophe Lagarde are at the centre of a widening investigation into a suspected call-girl ring in Lille, northern France.
Five people have been formally accused of “pimping”.
Mr Strauss-Kahn’s name has come up in statements made to investigators, according to leaked transcripts.
‘Malevolent’
The Socialist politician, who was cleared of the US sexual assault charges in September, asked to meet investigators last weekend to answer what he calls “hasty and malevolent” accusations.
Mr Lagarde was detained on Thursday and remained under interrogation yesterday.
The newspaper ‘Le Monde’ reported that the IGPN had evidence that Mr Lagarde made at least two trips to Washington to visit Mr Strauss-Kahn in February and May.
On each visit he was accompanied by the head of a Lille-based construction firm and a group of women from massage parlours just over the border in Belgium.

Baltimore Massage Parlors: Police Shut Down Harford Road Massage Parlor

Baltimore County police shut down an unlicensed massage parlor on Harford Road in Parkville Tuesday evening and arrested a New York woman inside the business charging her with prostitution, according to police spokeswoman Elise Armacost.
Li Wang, 38, of Flushing, NY, was arrested and charged with a violation of massage therapy law and two counts of prostitution, Armacost said. Wang is free on $5,000 bond.
Police executed search warrants at two locations, the massage parlor and an undisclosed address related to the business. Police also found and seized what Armacost called a “sizable amount of cash.”
The unlicensed massage parlor was operating on the second floor of a building at 8910 Harford Road.
“We expect more arrests to come out of this investigation,” Armacost said.
“We know there have been concerns in the neighborhood about this establishment, and we’ve been anxious to take action against it,” Armacost added.

WASHINGTON, September 27, 2011—The San Francisco Chronicle reported the story of You Mi Kim, a woman from South Korea forced into prostitution in the United States to pay off her $40,000 credit card debt. To pay off her heavy debt, she worked in a massage parlor that was actually a brothel, serving dozens of men in downtown Los Angeles and San Francisco.
Since the Chronicle broke the story, US authorities have focused on prostitution at local massage parlors, but have failed to address the root causes behind the proliferation of sex trafficking of South Korean women.

In order to pay off the debts, traffickers offer victims jobs at massage parlors in Japan. Upon arrival in Tokyo, however, the victims were locked up and forced into prostitution under debt-bondage while the trafficker profited approximately $304,000 a month.

Some of the conference numbers are misleading. Often Government departments are sold a hotel/conference package where snacks are included. If you try and opt for a package with no snacks, the price often goes up, so it’s cheaper just to get the overpriced snacks. It’s kinda like trying to unbundle your phone/cable/internet package. You could but you’d end up spending more. Also, I’d like to use this opportunity to complain about the so-called “erotic massage” package provided at the Barstow Motel 6. In the agreement, it’s clearly stated that this service would be provided “with release.” However, I awoke to find myself chained to the bathtub with my kidney missing. Needless to say, I was registering my opinion on Yelp as soon as the EMS staff cut me loose.
