THE driver who caused the fatal hit-and-run accident on Monday night in Yangpu District turned himself in yesterday.
“I was driving for fun,” explained the 21-year-old suspect, who seemed to be very regretful in the police station yesterday.
The man, surnamed Dong, has been detained and the case was still under investigation, said the Yangpu District police.
“We may have to sell our house for the compensation,” Dong’s father said painfully.
Without permission, Dong drove away the black Buick of a customer of his father’s foot-massage parlor on Monday evening. He later hit the victim, who was claimed dead on arrival when rushed to the hospital.
Accompanied by his father, Dong walked into the police station on Yinhang Road at midnight Monday, the police said.
The accident happened about 7:30pm on Monday. Dong and the black sedan hit a middle-aged woman cyclist in front of the gate of a residential area on Guohe Road.
