Baltimore Massage Parlors: Council bill on adult materials pulled from agenda

A bill intended to push businesses that sell sexually explicit products from residential areas has been withdrawn and will not be voted on at Thursday’s meeting of the Baltimore County Council, as had been expected.
In an e-mail to a reporter, Mike McAuliffe, president of the Halethorpe Improvement Association, wrote that he received an e-mail from Councilman Sam Moxley announcing the change. Moxley, along with Councilman John Olszewski Sr., had sponsored the bill.
An agenda for the May 27 meeting that was available on the council website Thursday lists the bill as being “withdrawn.”
McAuliffe and his association have been attempting to rid their neighborhood of an adult video store that offers customers the use of private video viewing booths.
Currently, under a 1998 law, businesses selling sexually explicit material, as well as massage parlors and tattoo and body piercing businesses, are required to locate in areas zoned for manufacturing.
